Students complete placement at Whitemountain

Tom Murray and Ciaran Rafferty have successfully completed their placement year at Whitemountain and have returned to their respective Universities to complete their degrees. Both took the time to present a final review of their experience to Whitemountain’s MD, Aidan Mullan and their managers Sean Brennan and Martin Burns.

Tom Murray, MEng Civil Engineering student at Queens University Belfast, completed his year in the Civil Engineering department. On reflection, he commented,

“ I visited the QUB careers fair last year and spoke with the Whitemountain team, they were very professional and friendly, and I knew that I would enjoy working for the Company. I was part of an amazing team at Whitemountain, who guided me to grow my skill set and confidence. I worked on a range of different projects, but my favourite was probably the new salt barn in Newry.”

Ciaran Rafferty, Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management student at Ulster University, spent his time working in the Commercial department under the direction of Commercial Director Sean Brennan.  When asked about his experience of working for Whitemountain Ciaran stated

“After initially carrying out a piece of coursework set by Whitemountain in the second year of my Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management course, I became determined to work for Whitemountain. Working both in the estimating and commercial department, I have developed the skills I will need for my final year and my future career. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Whitemountain due to extremely helpful colleagues, varied workloads, tasks and projects. My favourite project to date was DP World London Gateway. After the experience I gained on my placement year, I am keen to return to Whitemountain in a graduate position.”

We wish to thank Tom and Ciaran for their dedication and hard work throughout the year, and we wish them every success with their further studies.
