Improving Airport Fire Safety

Breedon embarked on a key project to help firefighters at Belfast International Airport improve the quality of their training and save lives.

This project involved the construction of a new 5,700m2 pavement quality concrete fire training ground which included the installation of a life–size steel model aircraft simulator rig, complete with wings and engines.

The rig was supplied with gas as well as a full mains water supply to enable the Airport Fire and Rescue Service to undertake regular training exercises to tackle different types of fire in live situations.

A specialist slipform concrete paving machine was used to place the PQC concrete slab. The “Gomaco 2400 with Gomaco Autofloat system” spread, compacted, finished and cured the new slab in one single operation.
